My experience expands beyond leading the management of client accounts – it extends into the internal operations, people management, and strategic decision-making that keep an organization running effectively. I was thrusted into a position of high responsibility early on in my career and have taken an active role in supporting teams, refining processes, guiding operational shifts, and contributing to high-level discussions that influence the direction of the business ever since. These responsibilities offer a deeper perspective on how agencies function behind the scenes and how thoughtful leadership directly impacts performance, culture, and scalability. The purpose of this section is to share my experience and found strategies that extend beyond the marketing account manager role.
Leadership & Management
Skills
- Team Coaching
- Performance Evaluation
- Constructive Feedback Delivery & Receipt
- Servient Leadership
- Employee Development
- Cross-Department Leadership
- Company-Wide Communication
- Executive Collaboration
- Decision-Making Support
- Collaborative Problem-Solving
Team leadership within a marketing agency is most effective when built on support, clarity, and consistent communication. Managing individual employees involved regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and constructive feedback designed to help each person grow in a way that matched both their strengths and the agency’s needs. These conversations reinforced the importance of creating a space where team members felt supported, understood, and encouraged to develop new skills. Leading through support—rather than authority—proved to be one of the most valuable lessons and directly strengthened team morale, confidence, and output.
Guiding the full organization required an additional layer of responsibility. Leading company-wide meetings offered opportunities to align teams on business objectives, clarify expectations, and bring different departments onto the same page during moments of change. These experiences highlighted how much a team’s momentum relies on shared understanding and thoughtful communication, and how leadership becomes most effective when the entire group feels equipped, informed, and connected to the agency’s goals.
Other meaningful takeaways came from participating in meetings with key decision-makers around vendor partnerships, financial considerations, and staffing decisions. These conversations taught the importance of both giving and receiving feedback constructively—balancing advocacy with openness, and understanding when to lead the room and when to listen. This dual perspective strengthened my ability to coach others, adjust my own approaches, and contribute to decisions that shaped the agency’s direction. Ultimately, team leadership became not just an act of guiding others, but an ongoing process of learning, refining, and growing alongside the people I worked with.
Operations & Workflows
Skills
- Process Optimization
- Operational Efficiency
- Systems Analysis
- Bottleneck Identification
- Resource Allocation
- Task Prioritization
- Time-Tracking Analysis
- Quality Assurance
- Workflow Refinement
Operational leadership is a critical part of supporting business scalability, especially during periods of new ownership and organizational change. Much of this work has centered on refining internal processes, eliminating inefficiencies, and creating workflows that allowed the team to operate with greater clarity and speed. Being relied upon to assess operational structures required a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on involvement—evaluating how work moved through the agency, where bottlenecks occurred, and which tasks demanded unnecessary time, energy, or resources.
Improving workflows meant working closely with individual team members to gather feedback, understand pain points, and identify where operational friction was quietly slowing the agency down. Time-tracking across roles and tasks offered another layer of insight, helping quantify workload distribution and uncover imbalances that weren’t always visible day to day. These granular observations formed the foundation for redesigning processes that were more efficient, intuitive, and aligned with the agency’s long-term goals.
The result was a series of system updates and workflow shifts that meaningfully reduced administrative “fluff,” clarified role ownership, and improved overall operational efficiency. These changes not only helped the agency manage a growing client roster more sustainably but also created the structure needed for faster onboarding, stronger collaboration, and smarter allocation of resources. Ultimately, operational refinement became a driver of agency growth—ensuring the team had the systems required to scale without sacrificing quality or momentum.
Recruiting & Training
Skills
- Talent Acquisition
- Candidate Screening
- Hiring Decision Support
- Onboarding Design
- Training Facilitation
- Recruitment Strategy
- Performance Readiness Evaluation
- Mentorship
- University Outreach
Recruiting and developing talent plays a meaningful role in agency leadership, especially as the organization grows and new capabilities are needed. I manage the talent search by engaging candidates across multiple channels—college internship fairs, LinkedIn outreach, and recruiting platforms like Indeed—to build a strong, diverse pipeline. From identifying promising applicants to conducting interviews and participating in hiring decisions, each step requires careful evaluation of both skill and cultural fit to ensure new team members succeed in a fast-paced agency environment.
Once a hire is made, onboarding and training become essential to their long-term success. I guide new employees through structured onboarding, clarify expectations, and provide hands-on training that helps them understand both the technical and strategic demands of the role. This includes workflow education, communication best practices, and the foundations of strong client service—ultimately helping new hires integrate more quickly and confidently into the team.
A key lesson that continues to guide my approach is the importance of selecting the right talent rather than rushing to fill a position. Turnover is costly—both in time and momentum—and investing the effort to find candidates who truly align with agency needs results in stronger performance and greater stability. The right people elevate the team, strengthen culture, and contribute directly to the agency’s ability to grow sustainably.
